Or are we just going to use it to smash our enemies and dance over their graves.
This is a follow-up to our last post, where we continue to build an AI Bill of Rights and examine the actions of the Biden Administration – https://commonerai.substack.com/p/the-last-principles-creating-the.
I know that most of you are too lazy to click on this link, but being the humble host that I am, I feel obligated to provide it anyway. Also, it’s not necessary to read the last one to understand this piece.
After the Biden administration released their landmark executive order, there was a mandate for all federal agencies to complete certain actions that comply with the order. Let’s take a look at the major themes:
Managing Risks to Safety and Security:
There was an emphasis on establishing ethical frameworks, providing guidelines on handling dangerous biological materials, and setting up safety boards to oversee critical infrastructure and software vulnerabilities. Personally, I believe we should start a movement to get me on these boards. I might not contribute anything of value, but the world would certainly be a more fun place with my finger on the nuclear arsenal.
Standing up for Workers, Consumers, and Civil Rights:
The key point here is to provide guidance and resources to workers so they know their AI rights in relation to different employment laws. For example, AI should not be able to discriminate in tenant screening and housing opportunities. However, I’m sure some exceptions will be made for you EDM fans who keep head-banging on walls at 1:00 AM… why must you do this?
Harnessing AI for Good:
This involves advancing scientific research and collaborating with the private sector, especially in the areas of clean energy and modernizing the electric grid. I like advancing scientific research, usually when it pertains to studies on the stupidity of certain individuals, but I guess this suffices as well.
Next week, we will finish looking at Biden’s Key AI Actions and compare them to what the Trump administration has proposed. FYI, this is a bipartisan blog, so we don’t choose sides; we are just here to educate the public 🙂
